A simple average Google rating can be useful, but it doesn’t always tell the whole story.
For example, a hall with a 5-star rating from seven reviews shouldn’t automatically outrank a hall with hundreds of reviews and a 4.6-star rating.
To make the ranking fairer, we used a weighted scoring method. This balances each venue’s average Google rating with the number of reviews it has.
The formula used was:
Weighted score = ((number of reviews / (number of reviews + median number of reviews)) × venue rating) + ((median number of reviews / (number of reviews + median number of reviews)) × global average rating)

Our own experience with Bedfordshire village halls
As well as looking at the review data, we’ve personally hired both Millbrook Village Hall and Marston Village Hall for our own children’s parties and found both brilliant.
Marston Village Hall worked really well for a children’s party. It gave us the kind of space you want when you’ve got little ones running around, parents chatting and all the usual party bits to organise.
Our personal favourite, though, is Millbrook Village Hall.
For us, it gives a really good balance of indoor hall space, a useful kitchen area and, if the weather’s nice, access to the surrounding grounds. The outdoor space includes a play park and a larger open area, which gives you more options if you want to add extra entertainment, outdoor catering or just let the children have a bit more space before or after the main party.
That’s the kind of thing a review score can’t always tell you. A hall might look good on paper, but for a toddler or children’s party, it’s the practical details that often make the biggest difference: where the food goes, where parents can stand, how easy the room is to set up, and whether the venue gives you a bit of breathing space on the day.

Great Denham Community Hall ranked second, with a 4.6 average Google rating, 221 reviews and a weighted score of 4.57.
The higher number of reviews gives a bit more confidence in the rating, and the hourly hire rate listed in the dataset was £28.80.
For parents planning a larger children’s party, the review count may be reassuring, but you’ll still want to check whether the available space works for the type of setup you’re planning.
Marston Moreteyne Community Centre
Marston Moreteyne Community Centre ranked third, with a 4.8 average Google rating, 26 reviews and a weighted score of 4.57.
The listed hourly hire rate was £30.
If you’re comparing it with nearby options, think about the total cost of the hall hire alongside food, cake, decorations, party bags and entertainment. A slightly higher hourly rate may still be worth it if the venue gives you better access, facilities or space.
Millbrook Village Hall
Millbrook Village Hall ranked fifth in our weighted index, with a 4.6 average Google rating, 81 reviews and a weighted score of 4.54.
We’ve also hired Millbrook Village Hall ourselves for one of our children’s parties, and it’s our personal favourite from the halls we’ve used.
The hall gives a good balance of indoor space, kitchen access and outdoor space, including the nearby play park and surrounding grounds.
For children’s parties, that flexibility is really useful. You’ve got the main hall for food, soft play, cake and guests, but the outdoor area can also help if the weather’s nice and you want a bit more space around the party.
Marston Village Hall

We’ve also hired Marston Village Hall for one of our own children’s parties and found it worked really well.
